Meet Your Physical Therapist

Dr. Reshma Salvi, PT, M.S.E.S, DPT.

Pelvic floor specialist PT / Owner

I completed a bachelor's degree in physical therapy in India in 2007. I was introduced to prenatal and postnatal care during my PT school curriculum in India. I came to the United States as a student to pursue a master’s degree in Exercise Science. I graduated with an M.S. in Exercise Science from Oakland University. I also earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Utica College, New York. I have been working as a physical therapist in the metro Detroit area since 2010. During my 14-year physical therapy career, I have worked in home health and outpatient settings. I started mainly as an orthopedic physical therapist, but over time, I noticed the need to address the pelvic health issues experienced by many of my patients. I have received extensive training in pelvic health physical therapy skills through the Pelvic Health Academy, a branch of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Additionally, I am trained in physical therapy interventions designed specifically for pregnancy and postpartum-related conditions through APTA's Pelvic Health Academy.

With this extensive training, I realized that addressing pelvic floor muscles is crucial to manage chronic painful conditions such as low back pain, hip pain, tailbone pain along with bowel and bladder disorders when relief is not obtained from traditional physical therapy interventions.

My passion is to improve awareness about pelvic health issues and the role of pelvic floor physical therapy to find lasting relief from symptoms.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • During your 1 st visit at Core and Beyond physical therapy, your physical therapist will have one on one conversation about your story regarding the symptoms you are feeling. It will be followed by comprehensive full body evaluation to assess joint range of motion, muscle tightness, muscle strength and pain evaluation. Your physical therapist will discuss details of the plan of care after completing evaluation steps. You will be involved in setting personal goals and plan of care to achieve them. Our goal is to make you feel comfortable and to provide you with correct education to manage your symptoms.

  • Internal vaginal/rectal examination allows a physical therapist to determine muscle tone, muscle strength, tenderness and other valuable details. Thus, it is recommended to conduct internal examination to accurately determine the source of the symptoms. You may opt out of the internal examination if you don’t feel comfortable. Your physical therapist can use external palpation techniques to gather required information.

  • No, you can visit us directly for an initial evaluation. The state of Michigan allows direct access to receive physical therapy care for 21 days or 10 visits. After completing initial evaluation, your physical therapist will guide you to obtain appropriate PT script.
